I have worked in various career development roles in the education sector for the last 15 years, commencing in a support role at a decile 9 school in Auckland during 2006.

For three years I worked as Itinerant Career Counsellor for the Cook Islands Ministry of Education. In this role I was tasked with re-establishing career education programmes in secondary schools on Rarotonga and the Outer Islands. I enjoyed the opportunity to be part of many projects.

Other roles included a new decile 1 High School in Kawerau where I had responsibility for establishing a full careers programme for Year 7 to 13 students, with particular emphasis on secondary tertiary interface programmes.

I have developed a passion to support participation and engagement of all students so they can enjoy success at school and leave with adequate qualifications and competencies to enable access to and completion of tertiary studies, entry into and completion of work training programmes and attainable employment opportunities in their communities.

I have become keenly interested in the future and further development of career development services in secondary schools and this prompted me in January 2020 to become a National Executive Committee Member of Career Development Association of New Zealand. Other Volunteer work I undertake, with my husband, is facilitation of The Marriage Course at Whakatane Baptist Church.

What I enjoy most in my work is people contact. My work style is approachable but business-like. Relationships are thoughtfully established, based on respect and clarity. My goal is to help people work towards empowerment.
