Robyn has been involved in the worlds of career development and education since the late 1980s, teaching adults and young people at tertiary level, training and mentoring career practitioners, and counselling individuals and groups. In that time she has designed and developed institutional career development programmes and services, academic advising and foundation programmes and career centres, as well as consulting to organisations and contributing to the body of career knowledge through conferences and papers.

In private practice she has been a professional supervisor and coach of career counsellors to help them develop their practice and meet appropriate industry standards, facilitated development groups, written expert opinions for ACC clients taking decisions to court and been the Auckland trainer for Career Voyage software

For most of her adult life she has been involved in social justice movements which has included running cultural competence workshops and working across multiple cultures including with Pasifika, Maori and Arab colleagues, students and clients. At times she has made her home in Australia, UK, USA, the central Pacific and the Middle East.

Currently she is interested in the idea of career competence and meaning making for clients, and the links between professionalism and competencies for practioners.
