FireNZ Careers Day 2017, Oct 11, Auckland

Kia ora koutou,

FireNZ are hosting our 2nd careers day on the 11th October at 1pm -4.30pm. Our target audience for this is the careers advisors for schools.

Last year we were told by those people who attended was that we didn't have a defined career pathway in NZ, in fact the only course really in the fire industry besides those required for the apprenticeships was the Masters in Fire Engineering at Canterbury University. Well we have taken that onboard and we have been working with the Tertiary Education Commission and E2E (Education to Engineering) to build a pathway. So at this years' careers day we are launching our Fire Industry Career Pathway. This involves a 5 week Fire 101 course and a Diploma in Fire Engineering and in the near future a BSc Fire Engineering.

This year we have gone a little further and we have developed a 5 week programme for school leavers who want to get into the fire industry. Not many people know what is included so this 5 week programme gives the student a good introduction into all aspects of the industry and different career paths. We would like to tell you more about this and how to register your students on this programme. The first course will be run in February next year and will end with 30 prospective employers interviewing for placements in the industry.

We would also like to introduce you to our Diploma in Fire Engineering and how students can find out more about this, in particular woman. We have a major shortage of women engineers in the industry at all levels and this Engineering Technician level diploma is hopefully a way to start to change this. Please come along and hear more about this and our new career pathway.

Please find here our careers day flyer and our brochure for the conference. If want more information please don't hesitate to contact me. Also please pass this onto all your colleagues at the other schools and if you could please post it in your bulletin.

Our national conference is being held once again at the Auckland Showgrounds on October 11-13 2017.
